This project was designed to reduce the traffic load of D-100 highway between Kadıköy - Kartal which has an intense vehicle traffic, ensure rapid and mass transportation of passengers and accelerate transportation between the two continents. This line is integrated to Marmaray Line at İbrahimağa Station. It is also connected to the sea via Kadıköy Station.
The tunnel between Kadıköy – Kozyatağı, which is among main line tunnels of Kadıköy - Kartal Subway, was bored by using 2 EPB - TBMs (Earth Pressure Balance Tunnel Boring Machines).
2 TBMs (Tunnel Boring Machines) were used for the tunnels between Kozyatağı – Kartal. All station platform tunnels and switch tunnels were built via NATM (New Austria Tunnel Method).
